We are writing to invite you to submit a paper at CEPR's European Research Workshop in International Trade (ERWIT) 2026, to be held in Oslo from 3 to 5 June 2026, organised in cooperation with the University of Oslo and BI Norwegian Business School. This workshop is co-funded by the ERC/UKRI under Horizon Europe Guarantee. We invite papers on topics related to international trade, foreign direct investment, migration, automation, and other issues related to globalisation.
ERWIT is an annual workshop that brings together international economists from across Europe and key researchers from outside the region. The workshop disseminates the findings of recent research on international trade, and presentations often involve exploratory rather than finished papers. It provides a unique opportunity to discuss trade-related research in a relaxed atmosphere.
The workshop will run for 3 days (from the morning of Wednesday 3 June 2026 until the early afternoon of Friday 5 June 2026, with arrival on Tuesday 2 June 2026). CEPR and the local organisers will offer some funding for travel and accommodation, but we cannot guarantee funding for all participants. If you have alternative research funding at your disposal, we encourage you to indicate this on your reply form. This will help fund travel and accommodation for participants who do not have other sources of funding, young researchers in particular.
Where funding is provided for travel costs, this will be in accordance with the CEPR Travel Guidelines. CEPR has recently announced the implementation of a new Greener Travel Policy aimed at reducing the environmental impact of academic travel, while preserving the essential role of in-person collaboration in research. Please click here to access the Greener Travel Policy.
The updated policy introduces two key measures:
- Reducing emissions: CEPR now asks participants in CEPR-sponsored events to travel by train rather than by plane for journeys under six hours, except where valid reasons—such as childcare, health needs, or unavoidable professional obligations—make this impractical.
- Offsetting carbon costs: For reimbursed flights, CEPR will purchase carbon offsets through a mix of compliance and voluntary markets. Attendees will be invited to contribute to these offsets via a small (optional) deduction from travel reimbursements (€20 for short-haul and €50 for intercontinental flights). Participants may opt out or indicate if they have already offset their travel independently.
The policy will take effect immediately and will be integrated into the expense reimbursement process.
We recommend that you hold off making any travel arrangements until further information has been given to you.
Unlike previous years, at this stage, we are only asking authors to submit papers. When selecting papers, some preference will be given to researchers who have not presented at ERWIT recently, although we still encourage everyone to apply.
We will invite you to express your interest in attending ERWIT 2026 without a paper submission at a later stage when the programme is available. Kindly note that it will not be possible to accept all applications to attend the ERWIT 2026 due to budget constraints.
